Jane English

Jane English was educated at Manchester High School for Girls and received her early singing tuition from Alan Ward. She was a founder member of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain and also worked as there General Manager for two years from 1993. During this time she helped in the planning of a Training Choir, enabling candidates who were not quite ready for the main choir to receive training, and “bridge the gap” being left by schools which no longer provided singing training for all pupils (i.e. in classroom music/assemblies etc). Jane also organised a concert at the Royal Albert Hall involving the National Youth Choir and 2,000 school children, visiting the schools involved to assist with choir training before the concert.

Since moving to Bristol in 2001, Jane has developed a busy teaching schedule including The Red Maids’ Junior School and Colston’s Girls’ School as well as private pupils. She has a keen interest in providing opportunities for all to sing to the best of their ability, and conducts Henleaze Ladies’ Choir as well as Bristol Voices. This work is combined with her own singing engagements, both in ensembles and as soloist.
