Around 50 youngsters aged between six and 11 years took part in the Carols by Candlelight  concert in Bristol Cathedral performing alongside Bristol Cathedral Choir.  The children are all members of the Bristol Voices and South Bristol Voices choirs and practise in their own time with conductor and composer David Ogden and Kate Courage, deputy director of Bristol Arts & Music Service. They are drawn from primary schools around the city performed arrangements of traditional carols.

 Canon Wendy Wilby, head of music at the cathedral, said the concert embodied the true spirit of Christmas. “This is was a really magical experience. There are few things more wonderful and moving than hearing children sing carols,” she said.  “The cathedral was lit by hundreds of candles, the atmosphere was be breath-taking and I’m the music and singing put everyone who attended in the mood for Christmas. It was the perfect antidote to the pressures and stresses that people feel at this time of year.”
